Add This Sander to Your Painter's Tool Kit: DEROS II 175mm

In painting, prep work is just as crucial as the finish — and having the right sanding gear can make a massive difference to your efficiency and final result. Rhys from Eastment Projects, a well-known Gold Coast painting and decorating crew, recently put the Mirka DEROS II 175mm to the test on some walls and doors.

“We’ve been trialling the new DEROS II 175mm on some doors and walls — it’s really ergonomic, nice and light,” Rhys says. “A little bit bigger than the 150mm — good to use in those tight spots that maybe the LEROS can't necessarily get to. It works well if you want to apply a little bit more pressure on your palm in a smaller area.”

Built for Control — and Covering a Larger Surface Area Than the DEROS II 150mm
Painters often reach for the long-reach LEROS for ceilings and large wall areas, but sometimes your shoulders need a break without compromising on sanding surface. That’s where the DEROS II 175mm shines.

“After we apply our undercoat, and before we start applying our topcoats, we go through and we give everything a fine sand with the LEROS. If you wanted to give your shoulders a break, then you'd probably use the 175mm DEROS to go through and have a little bit more control in the palm of your hand and maybe a little bit more accurate sanding,”

Rhys explains.

Perfect Match for Fine Finishing Work
Eastment Projects are known for their high-end finishes and water-based enamel systems — which means every surface needs to be perfectly prepped before the topcoat goes on.

“We use quite a lot of Mirka sanders in our business with all the abrasives like the Galaxy and the Abranet,” says Rhys.

“A lot of fine sanding before our top coats and our water-based enamel systems that we do, which is what we're pretty well known for.”

The DEROS II 175mm fits right into that workflow, giving you the performance of a larger sander with the control of a hand tool.

Exterior Work? No Worries
It’s not just for interiors. The DEROS II 175mm is ideal for external surfaces like weatherboards and FC sheeting, especially when you're sanding fillers or prepping for paint.

“Another area that I think the sander would be great in would be on maybe some FC sheeting on the outside of the house, or if you are doing a Queenslander — maybe the weatherboards were 200mm wide — this would be the perfect sander to go through and sand those weatherboards. Either if you're sanding some filler or your undercoats before your top coat,”

Rhys adds.

Dust-Free = Client-Friendly
Rhys also highlights how dust control goes a long way with clients — and with keeping sites cleaner and safer.

“One thing that we hear a lot from our clients is how they're impressed with our dustless sanding equipment. So this tool here would be another great addition for us to maintain the quality that we put out, and also keep the workplace nice and clean.”

The Mirka DEROS II 175mm isn’t just another sander — it’s a painter-focused solution that bridges the gap between power, comfort, and control. Whether you’re doing detailed interior work or prepping broad exterior surfaces, this tool is built to make your job easier — and your finish better.
