Why the Mirka RS600 Is the Rotary Polisher Detailers Didn’t Know They Needed

In the world of automotive detailing, the line between performance and control can often feel razor-thin—especially when it comes to rotary polishers. But Mirka’s new Deros RS600 rotary sander is turning that notion on its head. Designed as a rotary sander, the RS600 has proven to be a powerful, smooth, and surprisingly easy-to-use automotive polisher. And no one understands that better than Napoleon from Reflections by Napoleon, based in Sydney, Australia.

“I came into the shop here to buy some pads—the wool pads—and the boys showed me this Rotary machine. I’ve been blown away by it,” Napoleon says. “I took it back to my workshop and I used it, and I’ll tell you what—it is easy to use. It’s got variable speed on it as well, it’s just an amazing tool.”

Why the RS600 Stands Out
Polishers—particularly rotary ones—have long carried a reputation for being aggressive, heavy, and risky in the hands of less experienced users. But the RS600 changes the game.

“You’ve got a Rotary machine with the versatility and the simplicity that works like a dual action polisher,” Napoleon explains. “It’s lightweight, it’s not cumbersome, and I’ll tell you—it’ll give you a good result.”

What really sets the RS600 apart?

  • Brushless electric motor – Less maintenance, longer life
  • Variable speed control – Fine-tune your approach for any surface
  • Lightweight, ergonomic design – Comfortable even for long polishing sessions
  • Dual-use versatility – Sander and rotary polisher in one
  • Low risk of holograms and burns – Gentle but effective action

“If anyone’s really thinking about buying something on a Rotary level and doesn’t want to break mirrors or burn through paint—this is your answer. I promise you—it’s like using a DA polisher with Rotary capabilities.”

Napoleon’s System for a Deep Gloss on Dark Paint
Napoleon’s system for getting a deep, clean finish from the RS600 on dark coloured vehicles is as structured as it is effective. Here’s how he does it:

Step 1: Heavy Cut with the Wool Pad + Polarshine 45

“I started using the Mirka wool pads before I even bought any other products from Mirka... They last a lot longer. The cutting capabilities are strong. They’re stitched backing, so they’re not going to come apart.”

The wool pad and Polarshine 45 compound make a powerful combo for cutting through swirl marks, oxidation, and deep scratches.

Step 2: Refine with the Yellow Waffle Pad + Polarshine 12

“The yellow pads are quite good—they actually remove a lot of the hologramming and marring that the wool pad used with the Rotary creates.”

The yellow waffle pad is soft and combined with Polarshine 12, is so effective at refining the surface after the initial cut, laying the groundwork for a high-gloss finish.

Step 3: Final Polish with the Black Waffle Pad + Iridium 1250 Compound

“The black waffle pads are very soft—even though they’re a waffle—they give you a very, very good finish... The Iridium 1250 compound is my go-to, particularly on black cars. If you want a really glassy finish—these two are your go-to.”

Using the RS600 with a black waffle pad and Iridium 1250 delivers a crystal-clear shine with minimal effort.

“So look, obviously being a Rotary machine, you're not going to get the finish that you would get with the dual action in terms of the final finish. But in terms of cutting capabilities—haven't seen anything like it.”

This important note reinforces that while the RS600 excels in speed and cutting power, final finishing work may still call for a DA polisher if perfection is the goal. For many pros, combining both tools is the ultimate workflow.

Tested on a True Classic: The SLR 5000
One of Napoleon’s most memorable experiences with the RS600 was working on an iconic SLR 5000 that came into his shop covered in defects.

“I used it on the Torana that I’ve got in my workshop recently... It came in with a lot of very bad defects on it, and I used this on it today, and I’ll tell you what—it cut through very, very easily.”

He estimates that a job that would normally take an hour with a dual-action polisher took only 20 minutes with the RS600 rotary.

The Mirka RS600 isn’t here to replace every tool in your detailing arsenal—but it fills a critical role with surprising finesse. It’s a rotary that cuts like a beast but handles like a DA, giving professionals a faster, cleaner way to power through heavy defects without the typical risks of rotary polishing.

For Napoleon and many others, it’s not just a sander that polishes—It’s a smarter rotary.
