What kinds of glass damage can this

It can address everything from deep scratches to superficial scuffs, graffiti, weathering and other blemishes — wherever the glass surface has been marked or damaged rather than broken.

Which industries or surfaces is this
product suited for?

It works well in architectural, marine, automotive sectors; for building windows; windows on yachts, trains, and similar glass surfaces.

Which type of abrasive should I start
with? Abranet SIC NS or Abralon?

If you have deep scratches, you should start with Abranet SIC NS. For more superficial or light scratches, you can begin with Abralon.

What grit sequence should I use?

Determining the correct grit depends on how deep the scratch is.

Always begin with a less aggressive grit first or just polish out the scratch. If the fine grit does not sand enough, use the next coarser grit. This way, you can avoid additional steps when removing the scratches.

The fewer steps necessary to get the job done, the better. Otherwise, there is a risk of optical refraction. The polishing step takes longer than the sanding steps.

How do I avoid causing additional
damage during sanding/polishing?

Some of the best practices include:

Keeping the machine flat to the surface.
Cleaning between each step to remove dust which could scratch the surface.
Wearing gloves to avoid finger oils and grease transferring to the glass.
Monitoring temperature so it does not exceed ~70°C.

Are the polishing compounds safe /
what type are they?

Yes. Mirka uses water-based polishing compounds (Polarshine) which are safer (no harsh solvents), better for the operator, and more sustainable. Polarshine E3 is suitable for glass polishing.

How long does the polishing phase
take compared to sanding?

Polishing usually takes longer than sanding, particularly for final clarity and removal of finer scratches. Taking time at the polishing stage is essential for achieving a clean, optical-grade finish.
